In recent years, TRT1 in particular has had a strong thirst for presenting historical shows... This procedure, which began with Diriliş Ertugrul and continued with Mehmetçik Kutül Amare, Payitaht Abdülhamid, and Uyanş Büyük Selçuklu.

In the new season of TRT1, there are two essential historical shows to watch. Barbaroslar, the Mediterranean Sword, is one, and Alparslan, the Great Seljuk, is the other. In addition, the historical serial Bozkr's Lion Celaleddin was also presented on the ATV screen and the Kurulus Osman series.

The subject of making historical serials has arisen due to both the audience's interest and the political climate. Prof. Dr Yusuf Hakan Erdem, a historian and professor, participated in a YouTube programme where he discussed how the history presented in the TV series is not true.

According to Hakan Erdem, those who enjoy such shows and believe they have learned history from them are mistaken, who adds that these are fictional stories based on the screenwriter's knowledge and viewpoint.

The Historical Series are not real. Professor Hakan Erdem explains
Historical Series

"There is nothing left that belongs to our common learned memory, our past, that is not spoiled or broken," Hakan Erdem said, referring to the historical TV series on the screen. It's going to hell. You're completely destroying a full group's shared references. Whatever the screenwriters' worldview is, they can only present it.

The identical clothes and costumes from Game of Thrones have nothing to do with it; neither Seljuk, Ottoman, nor Celaleddin Harzemşah... A kind of awful TV show. Osman Bey, Erturul Bey, Alparslan, and others are the main personalities in this area. They're all psychopathic personalities. People are being strangled with their own hands. I'm a little taken aback. When history is abused to the point where it is no longer accurate, many people's perceptions of the past become just that. So, why are you doing this to your civilization with your own hands?"

Hakan Erdem remarked that the main character comes to the fore with aspects of violence in order to be viewed in the historical TV series designed to praise, emphasizing that there is a pathological image in the historical TV series made to praise. However, according to a well-known professor, this has nothing to do with history or reality.

Between 1993 to 2002, Hakan Erdem, a graduate of Boaziçi and Oxford universities, served as a lecturer at Boaziçi University. Erdem, who teaches at Sabanc University, is also well-known for his writings.
